"The High Noon Problem" is the 49th episode of Peg + Cat.

Synopsis[]

Early in the morning, Peg and Cat are riding through the Wild West and singing about how it's morning. They go into a saloon to find that the place is a mess, and one of the Three Billy Goats Gruff (who is working as the bartender) explains that a notorious, tickling cowboy named Bad Jack came and tickled him so hard that he spilled all the juice. The billy goat leads the protagonists outside, where the Neighbour Ladies are sitting in a stagecoach with Mac as the driver. They reveal that Bad Jack tickled them so hard that the Neighbour Ladies cried and Mac still has a stitch severe enough to render him unable to drive.

The billy goat takes Peg and Cat to a hotel, where the mermaid, who's sitting in a hot tub, explains that Bad Jack came over while she, Big Mouth, and Richard were having breakfast and tickled the aliens so hard that Big Mouth cried and Richard got a banana stuck in his antenna. Everyone then reveals that Bad Jack is planning to return at High Noon for a showdown, and the loser has to leave town forever. They ask Peg to volunteer for the showdown, and she agrees but doesn't know when High Noon is.

The bartender takes Peg and Cat to Ramone, who runs the general store and post office and is the only citizen who can tell time. Ramone explains that High Noon is in the middle of the day, and he explains to a curious Richard that it's called that because the sun is high. Peg thinks a showdown is a competition involving putting on shows, and so is shocked to learn the real definition. Luckily, however, it's only a tickling showdown, but Peg is still apprehensive, since Bad Jack is the best known tickler. As it turns out though, Peg did go through a tickling phase a while back.

Ramone explains that when Bad Jack wears high boots, you need to tickle him with a long feather, but when he wears low boots, you need a short feather. To get information so they can guess which boots Bad Jack will wear, Peg and Cat ask the townies for information. It turns out that Bad Jack wore high boots when he tickled the Neighbour Ladies and Mac the previous night, low boots when he tickled the aliens, and he tickled the bartender three times in low boots and four in high boots.

Peg and Cat presume that Bad Jack will show up in high boots, and he does, but he takes one off. Peg freaks out, but Cat jumps up and knocks Bad Jack's feather onto himself, making him lose the fight and have to leave town. Everybody then sings a song about what will happen the next day.

Trivia[]

  • Goof: Cat says that math saved the day, but seeing as Bad Jack took off his boot and was made to lose by Cat knocking his feather onto him, the heroes didn't need math to win after all.
  • Goof: Big Mouth is referred to as a "widow", then later Richard calls him, "auntie"-- However, Big Mouth is a male alien.
  • This is a rare instance where a Totally Freaking Out scene isn't solved with counting backwards.
