"The Sparkling Sphere Problem" is the 24th episode of Peg + Cat.

Synopsis[]

Peg and Cat are dressed up as knights in a forest. Peg explains that they're being the Knights of the Round Table, and they run in circles around it. Trouble arises when a voice calls out for help and Peg and Cat's helmets become stuck together at the same time. However, when Cat mentions that the speaker can't "count" on him and Peg, Peg tries counting (first by ones, then by twos) and on the third count, they'll pull apart. The second time works.

As it turns out, the person calling for help is Ramone, who is trapped inside the eponymous sparkling, floating sphere, and he's a wizard now. Peg asks how a normal little girl and her cat could help a powerful wizard, but he doesn't have time to answer before he floats away. Peg and Cat walk off and try to pass the time by skip-counting and bouncing, but they soon grow bored of it. They meet the Toad and ask if he's seen the sphere, and he says no but he knows a dragon who loves spheres. Peg and Cat try to barter with the Toad by swapping Peg's helmet for the sphere, but he gives them a block instead. He sprays it with glitter and makes it float, but Peg and Cat still refuse to buy it as it's a cube and not a sphere.

They keep walking, and run into the mermaid, who tells them in song that maybe the King, who loves shiny objects, kidnapped Ramone. The Toad comes back and returns Peg's helmet, then the mermaid gives Peg a red diamond and a magical golden rectangular prism.

When Peg and Cat arrive at the castle, some knocked-over poles are in the way. Cat scratches his bottom with the prism, which inspires Peg to use it to move the poles, and it works. They arrive at a locked door, and then Peg is inspired to use the diamond as a key, since the mermaid mentioned it was rhombus-shaped and that knowing shapes was "key" to solving problems.

She manages to unlock the door with the diamond, and they enter the throne room, where the Pig is ruling as King. As Peg interrogates him and Cat plays with the Pig's triangles, Peg sees Ramone floating by. She apologises for the mess Cat made and the two leave.

They roll down a hill to a cave, where rocks fall and block the entrance. Luckily, Peg uses the rectangular prism to clear the way and she and Cat enter. They find the Dragon bouncing on Ramone in his sphere, then Peg uses the prism to teleport the Dragon away. However, Ramone has "lost his sparkle". Peg freaks out, but instead of her counting backwards, Ramone has everyone believe in wizards count forward to 100 by twos. When everyone does, he is freed from the sphere, and sings a song explaining why he uses a sphere for transport.
